echo api

An internal mock-API builder for the Federal Police of Belgium, so teammates could test against realistic payloads without touching real case data. PHP + SQLite on purpose — boring enough to survive after the intern left.

Echo mock API — endpoint editor Echo mock API — response configuration

During my internship with the Federal Police of Belgium (part of my Associate Degree in Industrial Informatics at Howest), I was asked to build an internal tool that let other teams stand up mock APIs on demand so their apps-under-development could be tested against realistic response shapes without ever touching real, privacy-sensitive data.

The tool lets the operator define endpoints, sketch their response schemas, seed them with generated fake data, and then point other apps at the resulting local URL. It is plain HTML/CSS/JS on the frontend with a PHP + SQLite backend that stores endpoint definitions and fake rows. Boring technology on purpose — the goal was something any teammate could keep running after my internship ended.

The framing here is intentionally light. The internal tooling context (UIs, architecture, and specific use cases) stays off the public internet.
